trined birch rears searing white on a blaze of blue

draggled as winter a drab oak leaf lay still as a lizard thin-tailed limbs splayed

quivering tail primed exposes squirrel rimed hoary as winter woven into grass frozen

stream courses spring running like dark horses in a valley of snow

rust darts like a pine tree thrust sharp into the cedar hedge

trees like a phalanx of bows fire shadow arrows across the snow
