of war and art

…what about “war art”? Are the two words “war” and “art” as incompatible as “war” and “civilization”? I am inclined to think that the contemplation of war by an artist, and the attempt to make art from it, will have value. I think this because I believe it is impossible to think about war in purely aesthetic terms. Thus war as a subject involves the interpenetration of aesthetic and moral considerations, a condition which I believe is common to all the best art.
